Vintage & Retro toogoodtowaste starts its own Repair Café
What can you do with a broken toaster, a coffee table with a wobbly leg, or a sweater full of moth holes? Bin them? No way! Vintage & Retro toogoodtowaste supported by Repair Café Wales, is holding their first Repair Café in Treorchy on Friday 26th September, 10am – 2pm and you are invited to come along.
At Vintage & Retro toogoodtowaste on Horeb Street, on Friday 26th September and between 10am – 2pm, a group of repair experts will be available to help make all possible repairs, free of charge. People visiting the Repair Café are invited to bring along their broken items from home, such as toasters, lamps, hair dryers, toys and crockery. Anything broken (other than microwaves or white goods) is welcome and can usually be repaired by Repair Cafe specialists, who almost always have the necessary know-how!
By promoting repairs, Vintage & Retro toogoodtowaste wants to help reduce waste going to landfill. According to Shaun England, Chief Executive Officer at toogoodtowaste, "Every year, we throw away huge amounts in Wales, even items which have very little wrong with them, and which could easily be used again after a simple repair. Many people don’t feel confident to repair things themselves and sometimes we forget that we can have things repaired, instead of using up valuable resources by buying new items. As well as being better for the environment, our Repair Café aims to save people money, share precious repair skills that are being lost, and bring the local community together at a low-key, enjoyable event."
Vintage & Retro toogoodtowaste are being supported by Repair Café Wales, which has established a network of volunteer-led Repair Cafes across Wales around the values of waste reduction, community cohesion and skill-sharing.
